NO PERSON IS ALLOWED TO SHOOT UNLESS THEY HAVE READ, UNDERSTOOD AND SIGNED FOR A COPY OF THE RANGE RULES.

 

1. Range Conducting Officer will have complete jurisdiction over the range and must be obeyed at all times.

 

2. Access and exit to the firing range is via the steps at the rear of the firing point only. No person is to attempt access or exit via the grass slopes under any circumstances.

 

3. All members must display current membership badges at all times. NO BADGE – NO SHOOTING. Members must complete the range log book when entering the firing point prior to shooting.

4. All firearms must be unloaded/shown clear and placed on racks provided behind firing points upon entering club building.

 

5. If only two club members present, one member must remain with any unloaded firearms on the rack at all time. Members should take turns to be the non-shooter and act as Range Conducting Officer for each other. A Range Conducting Officer must be decided upon from the experienced shooting members present on the range before shooting commences. The Range Conducting Officer must ensure that warning flags, safety ropes and signs are in place and range is clear before shooting commences. The Range Conducting Officer must wear the    Hi-Visible vest at all times.

 

6. Sand on butts/bullet stop to be raked before shooting commences.

 

7. Approved targets to be used only, and fixed on frames provided by the club.

 

8. Ear protection to be used at all times. Black powder shooters must also wear eye protection.

 

9. When handling firearms, all are to be proved clear.

 

10. Unloaded firearms at firing points are to be left with magazines off (if any), with the action/chamber open for inspection by the Range Conducting Officer.

 

11. All firearms to be proved clear before removal from the firing points to the racks.

 

12. Ammunition must comply with range safety certificate. Failure to comply may result in expulsion.

 

13. All black powder shooters will observe the following rules:

            a) Capping off is to be carried out in the area designated.

            b) Loading is to be carried out behind the firing point and from prepared measures – flasks not allowed.

            c) When loaded, firearms must not be capped at the firing point until permission is given by the R.C.O.

            d) Loaded firearms must not be left unattended, in the case of a choked barrel; it must be made safe by a competent person.

            e) The use of any propellant other than commercially manufactured black powder (or substitute) an percussion caps is expressly forbidden.

 

14. After firing all firearms are to be inspected by the Range Conducting Officer, to ensure clear before targets are changed.

 

15. Any member having difficulty with their firearm will place it on the firing point muzzle down range and summon the Range Conducting Officer.

16. Upon the word “STOP or CEASE FIRE” being issued by the  Range Conducting Officer, all safety catches (if any) are to be applied, firearms placed on the firing point muzzle pointing down range and members must stand back from the firing point. NO SHOOTING TO RESUME UNTIL DEEMED SAFE TO DO SO BY THE RANGE CONDUCTING OFFICER.

17. All members must be fully proficient with the use of any firearms in their possession at the range.

 

18. Any person who is deemed unsafe by fellow members must be reported to the Range Conducting Officer, who must inform the committee.

 

19. The range must be cleared after shooting has finished. Floor swept, rubbish removed, targets put away, empty brass taken home or placed in the bucket provided. Shutters to be closed and locked, and range doors left fully locked and secured.

 

20. Vehicles are to be parked on the grass area adjacent to the firing point only. No vehicles are to be parked behind, alongside or in front of the access steps to the firing point, this is a safety issue for emergency access.

 

21. Vehicle parking area and range perimeter to be left in a clean and tidy condition.
